Floor Fitting Perth Services in Perth & Perthshire
Marshall & Co provides professional floor fitting across Perth, Dundee and the wider Perthshire region. We install engineered hardwood, solid hardwood, LVT (luxury vinyl tile), laminate, parquet and herringbone floors in residential properties of every age — from period stone villas to brand-new builds.
A great floor depends on three things: the right product for the room, proper subfloor preparation, and skilled installation. We handle all three. We'll advise on which floor type suits your subfloor, your room's moisture conditions and your usage. We'll prep the subfloor properly — levelling, damp-proofing, screeding where needed. And we'll install with the precision that makes the difference between a floor that looks right and one that looks fitted.
Whether you need a single room of engineered oak, a full ground-floor LVT installation, a herringbone parquet feature in a hallway or a complete new floor for an extension or renovation, our floor fitters deliver the work to a premium standard.
This service forms part of our wider work as an skilled joiners in Perth, giving homeowners a single trusted team for every stage of their project.

Choosing the Right Floor for Your Room
The biggest mistake we see in DIY flooring installations is choosing the wrong product for the room. Solid hardwood looks beautiful but expands and contracts dramatically with humidity changes — it's not suitable for kitchens, bathrooms or rooms with underfloor heating. Engineered hardwood gives the same look with much better dimensional stability and works over underfloor heating.
LVT is waterproof, hard-wearing and feels warmer underfoot than tile — making it perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms and family living areas. Modern LVT (Karndean, Amtico, Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) is genuinely indistinguishable from real wood or stone from normal viewing distance.
Laminate is the budget option. Modern laminate is a long way from the cheap product of the 90s — it's available in hundreds of finishes with excellent click systems and decent water resistance. It's ideal for bedrooms, hallways and rooms where budget is the priority.
Parquet and herringbone are stunning in hallways, dining rooms and feature areas — but they're significantly more expensive to install (typically 2x the cost per m² of straight-laid plank) because of the precision cutting required.
Subfloor Preparation — The Difference Between Good & Great
Almost every floor failure we get called to fix comes back to bad subfloor prep. Bumps and dips show through engineered floors as squeaks and movement. Damp coming up through old concrete subfloors causes laminate to swell and lift. Old chipboard that's never been ply'd over creates a soft, uneven base for LVT.
Our subfloor preparation depends on the existing floor and the new flooring spec. On uneven concrete we use levelling compound (1–25mm) to create a perfectly flat base. On older damp-prone floors we install a 1200-gauge DPM. On old chipboard we typically overlay 6mm or 9mm ply. On suspended timber floors with squeaks we screw down loose boards before laying anything new.
Subfloor prep typically adds £8–£20 per m² to the cost of the job — but it's what turns a good floor into a great floor that still looks perfect 10 years on.
Floor Fitting Costs in Perth
Floor fitting costs in Perth vary by product and prep requirement. As a guide for installation only (excluding the cost of the flooring product itself): engineered hardwood costs £25–£40 per m² to install; solid hardwood costs £30–£50 per m²; LVT click systems cost £20–£35 per m²; LVT glue-down costs £30–£45 per m²; laminate costs £18–£30 per m²; herringbone parquet costs £50–£90 per m².
Add subfloor prep: levelling compound £8–£15 per m²; ply overboarding £10–£18 per m²; DPM installation £6–£10 per m²; full screed (5mm) £20–£35 per m².
